Shelby's Story

MEET SHELBY:

Shelby is an adorable young pup born on January 17, 2026, from an accidental litter between a purebred German Shepherd mom and a Labrador Retriever dad. This sweet girl is one of the last three puppies still looking for her forever family, and she's ready to start the next chapter of her life with people who will guide her as she grows.

Like most young puppies, Shelby is still learning how the world works. She's a sweet, curious, and playful pup who is just beginning to find her footing in life. With the intelligence of a Shepherd and the friendly nature of a Lab, Shelby has all the ingredients to become an amazing companion.

Because she's still a baby, Shelby will need a home that understands puppy training and structure. Her future family should be prepared to continue house training, crate training, and positive socialization. Someone who is home more often than not, at least in the beginning, will be necessary to help her continue to build confidence and learn good habits.

Shelby would thrive with an active family that can provide both mental and physical exercise. Experience with German Shepherds or similar working breeds would be a wonderful bonus, as these intelligent dogs do best with guidance, engagement, and continued training. She will need a secured physical fenced yard or an active family dedicated to taking her for multiple walks every day - Shelby is not a dog that is suited for a tether. Shelby is also not a good fit for an apartment, condo or mobile home.

As with any puppy, Shelby is currently in the mouthy, teething stage and will likely chew and have accidents while she learns the ropes of being the best family dog she can be. Patience, consistency, and a good sense of humor will go a long way.

Shelby has been around other dogs and has even met a cat — keep in mind that puppy energy is not often tolerated by senior dogs. Because of her puppy energy and learning stage, she would likely do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to interact respectfully with a young dog.

Shelby is looking for a family that will commit to her for life, provide the love and guidance she needs, and watch her grow into the incredible companion she's destined to become.

If you're ready for puppy adventures, training milestones, and a lifetime of loyalty, Shelby may be the perfect addition to your family.

Shelby can go home with her new family in foster-to-adopt status until her spay surgery has been completed at 6 months (July 2026) of age at one of our partner veterinary offices (Chesterfield, Clawson, Clinton Twp, or Rochester). This procedure is included in the adoption fee and is non-negotiable.

Shelby is:
Current on age appropriate vaccinations
Dewormed
Receiving Heartworm and Flea Prevention
Microchipped
Scheduled for spay surgery at one of our partner veterinay office at 6 months of age (included in the adoption fee).

ADOPTION FEE: $400

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. We process applications ONLY - there is no guarantee that you will get a response to an inquiry.

Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal's temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different.

While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.

FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE. ADOPTION FEES ARE NECESSARY TO HELP US COVER VETTING COSTS FOR OUR RESCUED ANIMALS.
