Shelby's Story
Shelby is a Chihuahua mix, she is around one and a half years old and weighs about 9 lbs. Shelby is very sweet, she has the most adorable little face with big round eyes ❤️ She is working on crate training, and house training.

She acts kind of ferocious behind a crate or a fence (so she has *barrier aggression) but when let out with the same dogs, she’s perfectly fine with them.

**Barrier aggression (or frustration) is a behavioral issue where dogs act aggressively—barking, lunging, or growling—when confined by a leash, fence, window, or crate. It is often triggered by frustration, fear, or territorialism, causing the dog to feel trapped. Management involves using positive reinforcement to desensitize the dog to triggers and managing their environment.

She loves to be held and loves to follow her person around. She is very food motivated so that would make it easy to help train her.

This is a courtesy listing for one of our partners. All applications will be directed to their caregiver. Transport will be facilitated by us.

Adoption fee is $425 and transport is $175.

Shelby is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, on monthly flea/heartworm prevention, she tested negative for heartworms and she will be microchipped.

_______________________________
Considering adoption?

Start by filling out our online application (copy and paste the following link)
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DIX/Dog

Once submitted, we’ll review it and reach out to approved applicants by phone or email.

A Petfinder Inquiry is not the same as an application -

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER INQUIRIES. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application.

If your application was successfully submitted you will get a generated confirmation email.

DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY READY TO ADOPT.

All of our animals are rescued and transported from South Mississippi where major animal overpopulation means less homes. We only transport them once adopted, in most instances, we can be available for a video call once an application has been approved.

WE PERSONALLY TRANSPORT OUR OWN adopted animals to meet their new families. We transport every 2-3 weeks.
We facilitate adoptions through our own internal transport to ensure the quality of care. We travel to VA, MD, PA, NJ, CT, VT, and NY. Our dogs travel in comfort with 24/7 care. We have been facilitating long distance adoptions since 2019.

***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not DNA test. We rescue animals from different situations. We discuss breed assignments with our vets to label them as accurately as possible. ***

We are currently unable to adopt pets to ME and RI residents
