Shelby's Story
Shelby
Female, spayed
DOB: 10/03/24
Breed: Black Mouth Cur Mix
Weight: 30 lbs

Meet Shelby She has already been on quite a journey and is so ready for her happy ending. In October, she was found as a stray at a convenience store in North Carolina and placed in a high-kill shelter. In November, she was transported to a non-kill shelter just north of the Canadian border. With all the changes, Shelby became overwhelmed and a bit skittish, sometimes barking at potential adopters. That's when APR stepped in, placing Shelby in a loving foster home where she could finally decompress—and she is absolutely thriving!
Shelby loves other dogs and is currently living with two foster puppies and two adult, medium-sized dogs. She thinks she's still a puppy herself and adores wrestling and playing with the younger pups. She also plays well with the adult dogs, though she can sometimes be a little too enthusiastic—typical young-dog energy! She has also done great with the resident cat. After a brief, cautious introduction, Shelby decided the bed was too comfy to pass up, and the two now share space peacefully with no issues.
Shelby is about 90% potty trained and reliably goes outside. She's had only a small handful of accidents while adjusting to her new environment. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines, and truly ready for her forever home.
Shelby loves toys, bones, and running off her energy, so a fenced yard would be a big plus. She can be skittish around some men and may bark at them at first, but once she realizes she's safe, she warms up beautifully and has had no further issues. More than anything, Shelby wants what she's never truly had—a family, love, and a place where she feels safe forever. She would absolutely love to find her home before the holidays.

If you're pre-approved to adopt, message our Facebook page to meet Shelby!
