Shayla can be a bit unsure around new people, so she’ll need a family that understands her “stranger danger” feeling and is willing to let her warmup at her own pace. She does best when introductions are low-pressure—she prefers to approach when she feels comfortable rather than being approached. With time and gentle encouragement, she builds trust and shows her affectionate side. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes and would love a canine buddy to play with, but preferably not one that is in her face. <br/><br/>Shayla is a sweet, sensitive girl who thrives with patience, structure, and a calm environment. She does wonderfully in her crate and sees it as her safe space—a place where she can relax and recharge. <br/><br/>Like many thoughtful dogs, Shayla communicates clearly when she’s feeling overwhelmed or tired. If her early signals (like turning away or disengaging) are missed, she may give a small nip to say she’s had enough. Because of this, she’s looking for a home that will pay attention to her body language, respect her boundaries, and give her breaks when she needs them. In the right environment, this is very manageable and helps her feel safe and understood.<br/><br/>Shayla would do best in a calmer home, likely without very young children, where she can settle in at her own pace. A patient, observant family who values building trust will see just how special she is.<br/><br/>Shayla has a tender heart and forms deep bonds with her people. <br/>With patience, understanding, and a gentle, consistent routine, Shayla will continue to grow in confidence. She is a loving, devoted girl who just wants to feel safe, cherished, and part of a family — and in return, she will give her whole heart.<br/><br/>This dog is being fostered in Rochester, NY, by Rescued Treasures Pet Adoptions. We are not a shelter, but a foster home-based rescue, and these animals are all housed individually with foster families.<br/><br/>Please review our application carefully and ensure everyone in the family is ready for the lifelong responsibility and commitment of a canine companion.
