Hello my name is Shadow. I am a nine-month-old chocolate Lab/Retriever mix who has a swagger that could rival James Dean’s. I’d like to think that I was a tough guy, but that’s a hard act to pull off when my fur looks like somebody’s Aunt’s favorite 1970’s groovy velour jacket. Seriously, it’s tough to look cool around the other fellows when my coat glistens in the sun like a supermodel’s teeth and it feels softer than a baby’s bottom. Trust me, people just can’t resist touching my luxurious fur. That has to be the only thing that’s holding me back from being a tough guy. It couldn’t be my luminescent golden-brown eyes which sparkle with intelligence, or how I wag my tail excitedly when people approach me, or the way I love to play during my walks, or that I dream of belonging in a family who will spoil me rotten. Nah, that couldn’t be it. Could it? Well, okay, okay, now that I think about it maybe I’m not cut out to be a tough guy after all; but do me a favor and let’s keep this just between us! I wouldn’t want the other guys at the Haven to get wind of this and give me a hard time. Turns out, I really am just a big softie.
