Selena's Story

SELENA, HER MOM AND SIBLINGS WILL BE AT A MEET AND GREET/ADOPTION EVENT SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21 12:30 -2:30 AT PET EVOLUTION AT 1074 GRAND AVENUE IN SAINT PAUL. COME FOR CUDDLES, AND MAYBE FIND A FRIEND FOR LIFE.

Selena is a tiny French Bulldog/Shih Tzu mixed puppy who seriously lucked out. When ICE came to Minnesota the owners of this little girl’s mommy disappeared. A Good Samaritan took mommy in from the cold and on January 1 she gave birth to 6 puppies. Shortly thereafter she and the puppies were surrendered to PUP. A reporter from the Pioneer Press learned about her story and the paper ran a long article about her and similar animals in crisis because of ICE on January 25. Mommy weighs just over 11# and is as sweet and affectionate as can be.

We did DNA testing and found that puppy’s daddy is a purebred French Bulldog and mommy is Shih Tzu (33%); Cocker Spaniel 13%; Frenchie 3%; and Pekingese 1%. Mommy weighs just over 11#. We expect puppy will be somewhat bigger as Frenchies tend to be pretty stocky, but that is best guess. Puppy weighs about 4# now.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Puppy has been vet checked, vaccinated, and de-wormed. She will need two additional puppy vaccinations at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered at 6 months.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Puppy can be seen and selected now and go to her new home after February 28.

Professional photographs by Clara Metivier

https://youtu.be/SbHJA6ukGlQ
