Scarlet - COURTESY POSTING's Story
THIS DOG IS NOT AT MONROE COUNTY DOG SHELTER

Meet Scarlet – A Loving Companion Looking for Her Perfect Home

Scarlet is a beautiful English Bulldog, born on April 2, 2018. She joined our family at just eight weeks old on May 30, 2018, and quickly became an important part of our lives. Scarlet has spent her years enjoying the outdoors, playing with her toys, and cuddling up with her family.

She lived happily alongside another dog for many years and truly thrived in a home with a big yard in Connecticut. However, a move overseas in 2020 brought significant changes — a smaller home without a yard and major lifestyle adjustments caused noticeable stress for Scarlet.

Unfortunately, after a stay at a kennel while we were on vacation, we were heartbroken to learn that Scarlet was involved in a tragic incident where she attacked and killed our other dog. Additionally, Scarlet has shown signs of anxiety around small children. In separate incidents, she nipped at our son when he was 9 years old (which required stitches) and later at our infant daughter (minor injury). We’ve also noticed that when small children get too close to her face, Scarlet becomes uncomfortable and reactive. However, with older children (like our now 12-year-old son), she does very well and has rebuilt a loving relationship.

Scarlet has had two eye surgeries (eyelid trimming and treatment for an eye ulcer) and will need simple daily eye drops for life to keep her comfortable and healthy. She also suffers from food allergies so we do not feed her table scraps. We’ve tried numerous dog foods to find the one that best suits her. She is currently on Grain Free Nulo Freestyle Salmon single protein kibble and it seems to be working.

Despite these challenges, Scarlet is truly a sweet, affectionate dog who loves to play, cuddle, and be close to her people. She would thrive in a calm, adult-only home or one with older, respectful children. Scarlet deserves a second chance with a patient, loving family who can give her the stable, peaceful life she needs.

Ideal Home for Scarlet:

Adults or families with older children (12+)

No other pets

A calm environment where she can be the center of attention

A family committed to her daily eye care needs

Scarlet has so much love to give. If you are looking for a loyal companion who will cuddle, play, and bring joy to your home, Scarlet could be the perfect addition to your family.

Please reach out if you think you could be Scarlet’s forever home. She is waiting to meet you!

Please call (203)443-4603 for further information.
