Scarlet's Story

Scarlet

Dear Scarlet is looking for her happy holidays. She is a fun, smart, sassy girl who would love to brighten someone's life. Scarlet adores all people and is not shy about showing it. She is an aggressive tail wagger, face licker and crawl in your lap to “become one with you” type of dog. She likes kids, men, women and anyone in the human form.

Scarlet likes other dogs of her choosing. She appears to have an aversion to large male dogs. They bring out the spicy Scarlet. Other dogs, puppies to adults she enjoys. She comes out the gate a little intense and with a gentle verbal reminder, behaves well. Once she is comfortable she will snuggle, groom and play with her canine buddies. She initially demonstrated some resource guarding but has greatly improved and learned how to share.

Scarlet is house trained, doggie door trained and knows some basic commands such as “sit, down, off, no”. She adores car rides and thinks she should be included in every trip. She has made 4 five hour trips with her foster parents and did great. She jumps in, lays down and is calm as can be for her car rides.

Scarlet is leash trained and does better with a harness than a collar. Initially she pulls (and is a strong girl) but after a few minutes of excitement she settles down and walks nicely. She has been shopping, to a human medical appointment, a brewery and is a pleasant girl. The best way for her to meet other dogs in that situation is to make her sit and calmly introduce. If allowed to walk up on a dog while on the leash she jumps, pulls and looks like a little terror.

Scarlet is crate trained though that is not her favorite place to be. She likes to be included but can be left alone. She has a spring in her jump and could jump a 4 foot fence (though she has never tried).

Scarlet was found with her puppies and had a long scar that was beginning to heal on her back. We are unsure what caused her scarring but she is as trusting as can be. She is now spayed and done with her puppy days but does seem to enjoy playing with some of the foster puppies. She was heartworm positive and treated in October. She just needs to be on monthly heartworm prevention for the rest of her life. This did not slow her down in the least.

If you would like to meet Scarlet, please fill out a no obligation application. She is fostered in Colorado Springs.

This girl can light up a room, make you laugh at her antics, keep you warm and safe, all while offering you all the emotion support and snuggles you can tolerate.
