Sawyer's Story
Adoption Application: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication

********If dog/pup is showing as available it is available. Please do not email asking if it is. Sadly, his previous owner went into memory care, and he was put into a boarding facility while his family figured out what to do. A decision was made to find a new family for Sawyer to retire with, so we're hoping they are out there.

Don't let his senior age fool you- this boy has a lot of spunk and energy and he can clear a flight of stairs at lightning speed. He is a very rare breed of dog known as a Biewer Terrier. While Sawyer has a few issues we need to mention at his older age, he has so many other positives to go with them!

Sawyer has a collapsed trachea, which is not uncommon in smaller breeds. Sometimes it can make him cough a bit, but it's not constant. He does have cough syrup he can have it the cough becomes severe, but so far we haven't have to give it to him.

Sawyer also displays some separation anxiety if left alone without his human. He is not destructive, but will bark for your company. We feel he wouldn't succeed in apartment living for this. He is great in the company of other dogs, but honestly could not care less about interacting with them. He prefers humans. He will follow you around and loves to just rest by your feet. He does have a prescription for a small daily dose of anti-anxiety medications to help with this. For this, we'd prefer to find him a home where someone will be there with him most of the day.

Sawyer has been said in the past to nip at the back legs of humans when they were going to leave him. This was more of a "herding" nip and by no means any sort of aggression. To be cautious, we would feel best if the home he goes to has no small children.

The main issue with Sawyer is that he is not fully housebroken. At this point, we are unsure if he ever will be, but the solution that works is to use belly bands for him. We will supply his adopter with these to help. Luckily, he is not a leg lifter, so he is not marking furniture or corners. He does well with potty pads as well, so we can also supply those.

Sawyer LOVES to sleep in bed with his human. He is not remotely a fan of crates or playpens. If you have to run any errands, we would recommend that he has a baby gate to keep him in one area. He does better with a television or radio on to keep him company while you're away. When you return, be ready for the most wonderful greeting from Sawyer to show you how happy he is you came back!

This senior deserves a loving home with a soft couch he can retire on. Do you have room in your heart and home for our sweet little Sawyer?

If you would like to meet this adorable dog an application must be filled out https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication

We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally we require physically fenced yard for dog/pup to play in safely. Exceptions are sometimes made to this requirement but is up to the foster and more often done for the small breed dogs.

All our dogs have been treated with de-wormer; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 months or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchipped; and examined by veterinarian plus given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed at time of adoption. Dogs will be spayed/neutered thru us prior to finalizing any adoption.

We provide information on dogs age and breed based on what we are told by person surrendering dog or vet's best guess. While we try our best we cannot guarantee that this information is 100% accurate and can often be best guess in case of our lovable mutts.

You can learn more about our rescue and process at www.new2urescue.org or find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/New2Urescue. You must be 25 yrs of age or older to adopt through us. We are in the Rochester NY area and adopt dogs out to area residents.

We are registered in NY State with the Dept of Agriculture RR #033 and a registered 501c3 Non-Profit.
