SAVVY's Story

Meet Savvy — a gentle sweetheart who enjoys life at her own calm and curious pace. Savvy recently went out for enrichment and showed off her love for sniffing and exploring. In the large grassy run, she wasn’t very interested in toys, but she happily got a few zoomies when her handler ran around with her. Her favorite activity by far was using her nose to search the grass for missed treats — clearly showing she enjoys scent work and food-based enrichment. Inside, Savvy continued to shine with calming activities like a snuffle mat and a frozen lick mat. She stayed relaxed and settled, only jumping up a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed butt scratches and gentle attention. She was easy to leash, had no reaction to other dogs in the aisle, and transitioned in and out of her kennel smoothly with no issues. Savvy may seem a little independent at first, preferring to explore her surroundings rather than constantly seek attention, but she is very treat-motivated and happily approaches when snacks are offered. She allows full-body petting and shows polite, calm behavior with her handlers. One of her sweetest moments came when she saw a staff member— even though they hadn’t interacted much before, Savvy lit up with big, loose tail wags and eagerly followed him. She climbed right into his lap for affection and pets, showing just how loving and people-oriented she can be once she feels comfortable. Savvy is a lovely mix of curious explorer and gentle cuddle-seeker. She would do well in a home that appreciates a dog who enjoys sniffing adventures, calm enrichment, and quiet affection. With treats, patience, and kindness, Savvy is ready to be a loyal companion who will happily share both peaceful moments and joyful tail wags with her future family.

Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
