My name is Sarge and I am currently stationed at PointerRescue FosterHome Base. I was originally stationed in Texas with a birdhunter. However, things changed with him and I almost ended up in a shelter until some nice folks took me and my brother until they could find us a safer place than a shelter. We ended up with PointerRescue Org. I ended up in the Southeast and waiting orders for my new base assignment, Forever Home Base. So, here is my Commanding Officer Foster Mom to tell you more about me.<br/><br/>Commanding Officer Foster Mom: Sarge is a 6-year-old black and white neutered male. He and his “brother” were taken in by Good Samaritans when their birdhunting owner was no longer able to care for them. Sarge is an extremely shy boy who needs a lot of help coming out of his shell as it appears he has not had much socialization. Although he has done well inside (which is new to him,) he gets easily startled and frightened over new things, new situations and sudden noises. His crate is his safe place although we have gently tried to encourage him out of it, he prefers to stay there than to interact. He seems to get along with female dogs, but it is really undetermined with male dogs. He does not seem to want to play which is common for some dogs raised as strictly hunting dogs. He likes treats and his favorite is licky cheese (squirt cheese). We have been working on getting him out of his shell, he is still a work in progress. He is still learning basic obedience, but his fear issues tend to stifle his progress. He does have pointing instinct but we cannot guarantee he would be a hunter. Although noises startle and scare him, we do know he is not gun shy. One of his favorite things to do is run our pasture. He does fairly well on a leash but balks when you get to something that scares him. When Sarge does want attention, he will want you to rub his ears and head and he will press harder to you. <br/><br/>Sarge needs a family who would be patient and understanding with him as he will likely be unsure of being in a new place.<br/><br/>Want to learn more about one of the dogs we have up for adoption?
