Sarge's Story
Meet Sarge! This active pup transferred to us from Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Sarge and his sister (Amelie) were a suspected owner relinquishment to the Long Beach shelter, due to undisclosed circumstances. They were malnourished but bouncy pups looking for a new lease on life.
Due to being overcapacity, and the likelihood of contracting contagious diseases, underage pups cannot enter the general population and must be transferred to a rescue or foster immediately. A same-day exit request was made. Due to the drive time, we would be unable to make it before they closed. Thankfully, Sarge & Amelie received a 12-hour extension as a shelter staff member was able to take them overnight. We made the transfer commitment the following day and took the 4-hour roundtrip to exit Sarge & Amelie and bring them into foster care.
At the time of transfer, Sarge was only 4lbs and Amelie was only 2lbs. As of 9/6/25, Sarge is 16lbs and Amelie is 14lbs! They are a wild bunch who are enjoying an animal focused foster home that they share with 5 dogs, one foster dog (Penny), and 4 cats!
They are currently learning dog behavior and manners from the other dogs, explode with energy during playtime, get fussy when they clearly need a nap, sleep hard during nap time, and are mostly potty-pad trained while in their playpen.
The Belgian Malinois is a serious working breed with high activity/exercise/training requirements. We are looking for an active home who is familiar with the breed and/or with active working breeds of dogs.
Additionally, we are looking for a home who understands and is ready for how much work it is to raise a puppy to be the best they can be! At Sarge & Amelie's foster home they are eating 4 meals a day, at 4-hour intervals (with snacks & chews in between), are taken outside for supervised potty & play every 2-3 hours, wake up in the middle of the night to alert their foster for a potty break need every 4-5 hours, and are on the fast track to success with housetraining. Sarge & Amelie get to hang out with and meet plenty of dogs, cats, and visitors both in his foster home and at the work office they reside in while their foster works the day away while prioritizing their schedule & needs.
Sarge is a cool kid with a big personality! If you have an active household and are ready for the puppy grind and training/activity needs of a working breed dog, this boy is for you!

Vaccination status: Sarge is in the process of receiving his vaccinations and will be given a total of 3 sets spread out every 3 weeks until complete.

Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.
