Sarah's Story
Sarah is a 9-year-old, 18-pound long-haired Dachshund. She is very beautiful and affectionate dog.

As a senior, Sarah is low energy and low maintenance. She loves to nap, but she’ll get up and toodle from room to room as you move through the house. (She wants to know where you are at all times.) She gets very excited when foster dogmom comes home and dances round to get her pets, head scritches and belly rubs. She likes to nap with her head on foster dogmom’s feet. She lives in a house with 6 other dogs and gets along with all of them. She is also friendly to strangers who come to the house.

She has one particular special need: No stairs. She needs to be in a one-story home. Her foster home is two stories, and she’s not able to climb up (and shouldn’t for the sake of her spine).

Her second-favorite activity is eating. As you can see from the photos, Sarah is overweight. Being in a foster home with 7 dogs has not helped this as she can always steal from another dog’s dish when foster dogmom isn’t looking. Because of her weight, she doesn’t so much walk as waddles. She would benefit from a home that can better control her food intake and take her for mini-walks—up and down the street 2 house lengths to start with. She walks well on a leash.

Sarah has her manners down. She is house-trained, with excellent bladder capacity. There is no need ever to crate her as she is totally non-destructive. When you leave the house, she will nap until you come back. She almost never barks.

Sarah is a low-maintenance, low-activity dog with a great temperament and a loving nature. She would make an excellent companion for a senior willing to work with her to get her weight down.

Sarah’s adoption fee is $175 and includes spay, all shots & microchip. Se is heartworm-negative and on heartworm medication.

Note:
We always respond first to inquiries that tell us something about your living situation (house, apartment, single, family, etc.) and why you want this dog. Be sure to include your phone number in your inquiry. We call inquiries that seem to be a good fit for the dog.
