Sanford's Story
Meet Sanford!

At just 8 years old and a tiny 5 pounds, Sanford is proof that big personalities can come in very small packages.

This adorable little guy arrived as a stray, and while we don't know much about his past, it's clear that life hasn't always felt safe for him. Sanford is very nervous when meeting new people and unfamiliar situations. He's never shown aggression, but if he's scared, his first instinct is to make a run for it. Because of this, he will need a patient adopter who understands that trust is earned, not rushed.

The good news? Once Sanford feels safe, he transforms into a sweet little cuddle bug who enjoys being close to his person. One of the quickest ways to win him over is simply getting down on his level. A quiet voice, gentle patience, and allowing him to approach on his own terms help him feel secure much more quickly.

Sanford thrives on routine, predictability, and having a safe place to call his own. He would do best in a calm home without children. A confident, gentle small dog close to his size would be a wonderful role model and companion for him. He gets along beautifully with other small dogs, but large dogs are simply too intimidating.

He's crate trained, uses potty pads reliably, and enjoys the comfort of having his own cozy space. While traditional leash walks may not be in his immediate future, he would likely enjoy accompanying his person in a secure dog sling while he continues building confidence. With time and patience, he may eventually graduate to quiet leash walks in low-traffic areas.

Cats are unknown.

Sanford isn't looking for someone to "fix" him. He's looking for someone who understands that feeling safe is a gift-and who will celebrate every little victory along the way. In return, you'll gain one incredibly cute, wee little companion whose trust is worth earning.

If you have a quiet home, a predictable routine, and room in your heart for a tiny dog who just needs to feel secure, Sanford is waiting for you.

Please apply here:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog

His minimum adoption donation amount is $275. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives.

We are located in Bloomington, IL
We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state.
Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt.

Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. Better yet, help speed up the adoption process by also sending us your vet records, and having your references e-mail us at Deebysrescue@gmail.com

For information about this dog's breed(s), visit: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/abc.htm
