Samson's Story
Samson: A Big Heart in a Compact Frame

Samson may weigh just 50 pounds, but his personality fills the room. The moment his people walk in, he lights up—wiggling, bouncing, and radiating pure joy. Since joining the rescue Samson wasted no time showing everyone just how happy and fun-loving he truly is.

He’s making great strides in his training, learning to sit politely and wait for treats with growing patience. While fetch isn’t really his thing, Samson finds contentment in exploring the yard, sniffing out new adventures, and simply being present in the moment.

His recall is excellent—he’ll trot right to the door when called from his enclosed yard, eager to reconnect. Walks are another area where Samson is blossoming; his leash manners continue to improve as he learns to stay focused and enjoy the journey.

Samson is the kind of dog who brings light into a home. He’s cheerful, affectionate, and ready to bond deeply with a family who sees him for the treasure he is. His story is one of resilience: saved from euthanasia by a partner rescue who stepped in just in time, and now thriving in foster care thanks to MAPS.

He’s waiting for someone to write the next chapter—a family who will not only change his life, but find their own transformed by the love of a dog who never gave up.

Application Process

MAPS’s adoption process is designed to help best place dogs with homes that are in the best interest of the dog and their human companions. The adoption process starts with a prescreen review of a Guardian Application. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an "art", not a "science", and there will be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the MAPS after reviewing relevant information. MAPS reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MAPS, or posted on MAP's web site, will be granted an adoption. After a successful prescreen, including background checks, the applicant(s) are notified that they can visit the dogs and a time slot is made for the dog and applicant interaction. After the interaction we encourage several days of reflection before adopting a pet to help assure this will be a lifetime commitment of love and quality care for the dog. Next we conduct a home/neighborhood visit to the Guardian Applicant's home. If the home visit proves successful the new mom and/or dad of the dog will sign an Adoption Agreement and share a lifetime of love and mindful growth !

Guardianship Application available for download at

http://tinyurl.com/MAPSFiles

MAPS Dog Rescue Mission

Midwest Area Pit Stop, Inc. (MAPS) is a foster home based rescue located in Madison, Wisconsin established in 2005 after being part of the Chicago Illinois based rescue Furry Friends for several years. MAPS focuses on providing a structured, safe calm environment for the dogs in their care that helps them flourish. This structured home environment is complimented by exercise, Positive Reinforcement Deference Training, very high quality dog food in addition to a broad spectrum of proven food supplements including vitamins and supplements. In addition to fostering, MAPS provides sponsorship funds to help with the veterinary expenses and/or Breed DNA testing to save dogs in need of a rescue at the end of their options. MAPS has been active in the community promoting dog safety, how to build a healthy relationship with your dog, and fighting breed discrimination including breed testing of hundreds of dogs since December 2007. MAPS believes that dogs are a central component for people to have a more meaningful and purposeful life. That is, if people are willing to embrace mindfulness in daily living. Dogs help us connect to reality and make life worth living through example and deep bonds. MAPS is not about how many dogs are adopted in the shortest amount of time but rather measures to help insure the dogs that are adopted do not come back for the wrong reasons.
