Sammy's Story
Sammy was originally rescued by us in 2009 from Taiwan, where there are so many dogs that are homeless and very few people with fenced yards that can accommodate larger dogs. The scarring on his nose is said to have been from being struck repeatedly with a wire instrument or weapon. Professional Beagle breeders have told us that Sammy is a purebred Beagle despite his long ears. American breeders, they say, have bred for shorter ears, but the longer ears are true to the pure Beagle standard. Sammy was adopted two years ago to someone who recently became too ill to care for Sammy, but he seems to be quite happy to be back with us. He kennels well with other dogs, loves to eat, go for walks and sniff things. We think Sammy is about 8 years old now, and he's quite large for his breed, probably 40 pounds, with somewhat splayed rear legs. It isn't known if Sammy is housebroken, as he wasn't allowed indoors at his adoptive home. Good news: Sammy has found a wonderful foster home, where he'll live with three other dogs and learn new things while we learn more about him! (Maybe he'll even get to stay.)
