Meet Sam

Hi All, your man (pup) Sam here. I'm searching for a furever home to call my own. At 13 1/2 years old, I'm beginning to look at my golden years. In that time though, I've had about six different homes so I REALLY want this one to be my very last. It isn't my fault really, according to what my foster mom was told, I ended up in older people's homes and in each case, they developed health concerns that didn't allow them to care for me properly so off I went to live somewhere else only to have it happen again.

The following is the rest of "Sam's history as given to GBAR"...

Sam is a poodle/Maltese mix, white in color and definitely looks like a poodle and weighs about nine pounds. As stated earlier, he's about 13 1/2 years old, fully vetted including a recent dental and microchip. He was neutered before coming to GBAR and his vaccinations were all current. He'd been a patient at Parkside Animal Care Center, the rescue's vet clinic, since he lived in his most recent home so we have those records. Sam is house trained for the most part, but in his foster home, they've successfully been using a "belly band" when they aren't home just in case he has to potty before they get home. Apparently, in an earlier home, the owner was bed-ridden and it sounds like not receiving adequate help in her home so Sam was left to potty whenever and wherever he could. His foster family does say that he's been very good in their home.

In his foster home, Sam has at least three other dogs sharing the space and they do get along well for the most part. Periodically Sam can be (per his foster mom) a crotchety old man where he grumbles about some inconvenience but it has never been anything more than grumbles.

Upon arriving at GBAR, we were told Sam has separation anxiety. His foster family hasn't noticed it though. He will stand at the door and bark when they leave, but when they come home (even if it's a quick run to the store) he isn't doing that anymore. They do feel though that having the other dogs there who aren't concerned while people are gone is definitely a help. Keeping that in mind, Sam's ideal home would have another dog or someone who's home a good share of the time.

One other observation from Sam's foster family is that his gait is a bit "off". He's not stiff or having trouble getting up or walking. It isn't something you could specifically say is the issue, but they have started him on Dasuquin for his joints.

So, this is Sam's story in a nutshell. Applications to adopt him are found on GBAR's website: greenbayanimalrescue.weebly.com under the "Adoption Process" tab.

Thank you for checking me out guys! Please think about adding me to your awesome family so I can enjoy the rest of my years living "happily ever after" with you...
