Salsa's Story

INTRODUCING SALSA
Salsa is a beautiful 8-year-old female Havanese weighing 17 pounds. Of the three Havanese girls, Salsa was the most fearful when she arrived — yet through it all, she has never shown any aggression. While touch and handling are still very scary for her, she has made slow progress with patience, consistency, and kindness.
Salsa recently started fluoxetine to help ease her anxiety, though it will take time for the medication to build in her system to see how it will help. Despite her fears, her personality shines through in her own quiet ways. She loves spending time outside hanging out on the deck, exploring and happily runs and plays with the other dogs. She occasionally follows her foster mom around, even if she still retreats when approached directly. It’s a huge step forward for this sweet girl. She is doing wonderfully with a strict potty schedule and goes into her kennel on her own. Salsa will need a very special home with a securely fenced yard attached to the house, as well as another confident, friendly dog to help guide and reassure her. Her ideal adopter will be extremely patient and understanding, knowing that trust for Salsa will come slowly and on her terms. After what appears to have been a very difficult first 8 years of life, learning that humans can be safe is a long process. Salsa deserves a home where she can finally feel secure and loved without pressure or expectations. She may never become a cuddly lap dog, and that's okay. What she truly needs is a family willing to keep her safe and let her simply enjoy being a dog for the very first time.
Salsa’s vet work is complete including a fresh dental.
Salsa’s adopting fee is $200. Applications can be submitted at www.heartrescueteam.com
(Fenced yard attached to home required)
