Sage's Story
Sage — Seven Years of Waiting. She Is Ready to Be Done With That.

Sage came to Rebel Dogs Detroit seven years ago, pregnant and in need of help. She raised her puppies safely in our care. Those puppies are considered senior dogs today. Sage is still here.

She has spent years cycling between the shelter, staff homes, and temporary places to land. She has always had people who loved her. She has just never had a place that was truly hers — her own couch, her own routine, her own person who is not going anywhere. She has watched hundreds of dogs come through and leave while she stayed behind, and she has done it with a grace and a goofiness that honestly makes you love her even more for it.

Sage does not spend much time feeling sorry for herself. She is too busy being Sage, which is a full time occupation and an extremely entertaining one. She is goofy beyond belief, full of personality, and still completely convinced she is a young dog — right up until about ten minutes into a play session, at which point she transitions into one of the most committed nappers you have ever witnessed. She plays hard and she rests harder and she has zero apologies about either.
She is a professional cuddler and easily won over with treats and a little patience, which makes her a joy to work with once she has decided you are safe. New people can make her cautious at first, but a pocket full of snacks and a calm approach goes a long way with Sage and she gets there reliably. She would like to be your one and only dog — she has peacefully shared space with a cat who ignored her, but other dogs are not her preference and she does best without them.

Sage does not need someone looking for a perfect dog. She needs someone looking for a perfectly imperfect best friend with seven years of love stored up and nowhere to put it yet.

She has given us everything she had for seven years. The years she has left deserve to be spent somewhere that is finally, completely, permanently hers.
She has waited long enough. Let's make sure the wait is over.

Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home.

APPLY on our WEBSITE:
Rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt
Rebeldogsdetroit.com/becomeafoster
