Sage's Story

Sage is a very special 10-year-old girl. Our best guess is that she's a German Shepherd/Husky mix. Due to an accident, she required an amputation of her right front leg but it has not slowed her down at all! For the last 5 years, Sage has been living a fantastic life with her loving dad who very sadly passed away. Unfortunately, her dad's loving family cannot keep her and are forced to find her a new family.

Sage absolutely loves people! And especially anyone who wants to give her scratches! She is sweet, loving, easy to have around and will do absolutely anything for a treat. She is approximately ten years old, probably husky/shepherd mix, spayed female. She is three legged, but has never let that stop her from exploring her world. She has definitely slowed down in recent years though. We just recently put her on arthritis medication ($50 per month) which has helped tremendously and she is building her stamina again. She would do well in a home where she could take very short sniff walks, or just snooze and cuddle. She was an excellent companion to my father and would be a great addition for someone who is retired or works from home. We have been working very hard on crate training and she is doing fairly well with it.

She is pretty dog selective/reactive. With careful introduction and time to get used to other mellow dogs, she has done great though. And she seems to prefer the company of another familiar dog when left alone. She has lived with my elderly father for five years or so, and was rarely if ever left alone, so she does have some separation anxiety. That manifests as her getting into the garbage, but I have not seen her do damage to the home. She does extremely well in the car and loves to go for rides. She prefers to go along and sit in a car than be left at home. She can jump into a regular vehicle, but needs a ramp (which would come with her) if she has to load into a pickup or vehicle with more clearance. She was recently groomed and she did well. She was a bit nervous so the groomer just put her under a fan rather than using a blow dryer.

I don't believe she would do well with cats or other small pets, but I haven't seen her around them. I have also never seen her around very small children. I think she would be great, but don't know if an unknowing child tried to take her food, what she would do. She is tolerant of me reaching for her food, but somewhat guards her food if my dog tries to take it.

She is extremely well behaved potty-trained and can go many hours without asking to go outside. She is current on all of her shots and in a recent vet visit, he said she was in very good health with the exception of the arthritis.

If you are interested in giving this wonderful girl a home of her own, please fill out our online adoption application at www.rezqdogs.org/adopt and contact us at rezqdogs@gmail.com
