Sadie's Story
Adoptable Dachshund Sadie is 4 years old and 13 pounds. Sadie is one of those girls who makes you smile without even trying. She’s spunky, expressive, and full of personality – the kind of dog who knows exactly who she is and isn’t afraid to let you know it.

Sadie is paralyzed in her back legs, but don’t let that fool you. This happy little firecracker does not let it limit her life. She cruises around the house in her drag bag, enjoys stroller walks through the neighborhood, sleeps soundly all night in her dog bed, and is currently learning to use her wheeled cart (slowly but surely!). Wheelie-dog lovers… she’s been waiting for you.

Sadie’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
✔️A patient adopter who is willing to express her bladder (we are happy to teach you!)
✔️A home where she is the only dog or has a very calm and respectful companion
✔️A home without big dogs
✔️A home without small children, older and respectful kids should be okay

Sadie is very people-oriented and forms strong bonds with her person. She enjoys meeting new people when introduced properly and is not shy or timid. She’s confident, calm, and has no signs of anxiety. While she doesn’t love when her people leave, she settles quickly and does not have separation anxiety.

When it comes to other dogs, Sadie is best described as tolerant, not social. She’s happy to coexist as long as her boundaries are respected. She does not want to share her bed, her food, or her favorite toys – and she will clearly communicate that with barking or growling (no snapping or aggression). She will sniff another dog to learn about them, but she has no interest in playing or sharing her person. With direction, she will behave appropriately around other dogs, but she would truly thrive as an only dog or with a very calm, respectful canine companion. Big dogs are likely not her preference.

She eats separately due to food and toy guarding, and she has an x-pen area that she considers “her room.” She’s perfectly content spending time there when needed.

Sadie does not have bladder or bowel control, so her bladder needs to be expressed. Her bowels tend to take care of themselves and will come out wherever she is. Often times she poops when her bladder is expressed. She wears a diaper and is easy to care for once you learn her routine. She is not crate trained but does wonderfully with her setup and sleeps peacefully through the night.

She does well on car rides (especially if she can see out the window), enjoys neighborhood strolls in her stroller, and will alert you to outside noises like car doors – but she’s not an excessive barker and responds well when told that’s enough.

Because Sadie values her space and boundaries, we would not recommend a home with small children. Older, respectful children who are taught how to interact appropriately with her may be okay.

Vetting and Medical
In our care, Sadie has received a vet check, vaccines, skin treatment, nail trimming and IVDD surgery. She is on monthly heartworm preventatives.

Medical Donations
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
