Sadie's Story

Hi, my name is Sadie! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Shy, sensitive, affectionate, silly, playful

-Can Live with Kids: Sadie is easily overwhelmed and would do best in an adult-only home, or potentially one with very calm, dog-savvy older kids/teens who are able to read/respect canine body language. At this time we're recommending ages 16+.

-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history, will need slow, supervised introduction.

-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, please!! Sadie totally blossoms in the company of other dogs and would greatly benefit from another canine companion to help show her the ropes. She could do just fine as a solo dog as well, but we'd really love to see her adopted into a home with another four-legged friend.

-Can do Apartment Living: No, Sadie was mainly an outdoor dog in her previous home and would have a really difficult time adjusting to busy apartment life. A calm, low-traffic home setting would be best.

-Potty Trained: Yes

-Bite History: No

-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Not required but would certainly be beneficial in helping her gain confidence and form a bond with her new person!

-Energy Level: Medium/high

-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Spay/microchip

-Additional Information: Sweet Sadie girl is a timid, tender-hearted pup trying so hard to be brave! This gentle soul came to us pretty undersocialized and fearful, having spent most of her young life more or less left to her own devices. It appears as though she has not been exposed to much in the big wide world around her, so understandably some new things can be a little scary, but day by day she opens up just a little bit more to the friends she's made at the shelter; and as soon as you meet her for yourself it's clear to see the goofy, curious, incredibly affectionate pup she truly is at heart. Sadie would do best with a calm, patient adopter who understands she needs to take the world at her own pace. She's not a dog who's going to enjoy accompanying you to busy breweries or hosting large get-togethers on the weekends, she'd much prefer a quiet hang at home playing fetch in the yard or curled up next to you on the couch. Sadie is a super goofball once comfortable and loves to play-- when she's done romping around she'll collect all of her toys from around the room and carefully place them into a neat little pile on her bed for safekeeping. We learn a little more about Sadie's personality every day and are excited to see her continue to blossom once out of the shelter and decompressed in her new home environment. This is a dog who's going to form a very deep bond with her human; Sadie has so much love to give and is eager to find that special someone to share her life with!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
