Sadie's Story
Sadie is a calm, well-mannered, and affectionate 7-year-old black Lab mix. She loves soaking up the sunshine—both indoors and out—and enjoys spending her days quietly relaxing near her people. She gets along well with other dogs (cats are unknown), and she’s fully house-trained, crate-trained, and very food-motivated.

Sadie completed her heartworm treatment like a champ and is slowly increasing activity as she waits for her final clearance. She also had surgery to remove a few mammary masses and recovered beautifully—this girl is a trooper. One mass required extra attention but was fully removed with no signs of spread. She’ll simply need routine monitoring from her vet over the next few years. Today, she’s a happy, bright-eyed girl who hasn’t let her past challenges dim her spirit.

Since much of her foster time has been during exercise restriction, Sadie is still learning some everyday dog skills. On short walks, she is strong and may bark when encountering people or other dogs—her foster mom describes her leash manners as “okay and improving,” especially with continued training. Indoors, Sadie is very well-behaved, though she may bark at people walking past the house (something they’re working on). She hasn’t shown destructive behaviors, plays nicely with toys, and has done well with visiting dogs after a proper introduction.

Sadie is crate-trained but doesn’t necessarily require one long-term. She sleeps soundly through the night, choosing either her crate or a dog bed. She doesn’t get on furniture but happily puts her front paws on your lap when she wants affection. She knows “sit” and is learning to offer it consistently—her love of food makes her a good candidate for continued training.

Overall, Sadie is a quiet, sweet companion who thrives in a calm home and appreciates a gentle, loving environment. She will make a wonderful addition to a household looking for a low-key, affectionate dog who enjoys simple pleasures and steady routines.

Sadie is fostered in Normal, IL.

***********************
Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. It’s a lifetime commitment!
