Sadie's Story
Sadie is approximately 5 years old and weighs 15 pounds
Sadie a small Breed and has special needs

Sadie is good in a home with other dogs, children (younger children need supervision) but has not been introduced to cats

Sadie is a special needs dog, she came into the rescues care in poor health unable to use her hind legs. After seeing specialist it was determined she likely suffered IVDD and did not get the urgent care needed at time of injury. The vet did not think she would walk again.

Sadie's foster spent the summer rehabilitating her by swimming, pushing her in a stroller exposing her to different sights and smells boosting her spirits. She socialized her with people and dogs giving her confidence and improving her strength/will to live.

With time and patience a miracle happened, slowly Sadie began to stand, her abilities growing with time. Sadie eventually started walking, even ran at times.

Sadie's battle was not over! The vet discovered she had a large bladder stone. Surgery was completed and the vet was successful in removing the stone, he also did a full dental, pulling 8 teeth. Sadie has healed from her surgery and is doing well. Its recommended Sadie remain on a special vet diet to keep her urinary PH levels balanced helping to prevent future bladder stones.

Sadie should be let outside every 2-3 hrs (except for overnight) due to past bladder issues.
An ideal adopter would work from home, retired or have someone home daily. Sadie does not pee inside but has pooped at times usually because she does not want to be out in the cold.
When Sadie goes outside for washroom break she likes you to stand with her or she will tend not to go and just scratch at door. In summer she will stay out longer.

Sadie's strength and health is improving daily but she will never walk 100 % perfect, she does have trouble doing most stairs and needs to be lifted to go up or down. Potential adopter needs to be able to lift her.

Sadie loves car rides and walks, she benefits from 2 short walks a day (weather permitted). During walks Sadie may bark/growl at other dogs she is working on this behavior. It is important Sadie gets her exercise to keep her strength up but needs to be reminded of her limits as she tends to over do it. She needs to be kept on leash when not safe behind a fenced yard or if your opening doors to busy streets as she will attempt to run. She listens well when you tell her no or get back.

Sadie is a very social dog, she will run to anyone for attention and likes to be included in your activities. Young children should be taught to be careful and respectful with Sadie not to pick up, fall on or drop her at the risk of further injury. The same with larger dogs.

When in the house with dogs big or small she will bark at first (fear based) but warms up quickly. She enjoys the company of dogs, currently living with 3 of all sizes, she adores her foster siblings often cuddling and grooming them. Sadie would also be ok being the lone dog as she loves being the center of attention. As long as she has her people she is content.

Sadie is left to roam the house when her foster is out (she's not destructive). She needs to be able to move her legs and walk around not cooped up in a kennel or she gets stiff. She loves to watch out the window and makes a great little guard dog.

Sadie loves meal time but will growl (not bite) when a dog goes near her food. She eats food quickly and will try to get into other pets food if left accessible.

Sadie loves to cuddle and wants to be on your lap or close by. She would benefit with someone who is home more often than not. She wants to be near her person at bedtime, content to sleep on her doggy bed (bedside floor). She won't move usually until morning when you say its time to get up. In the mornings she requires to be carried outside as it takes a bit for her legs to loosen up and needs to get outside fast to pee.

Sadie is such a loving and sweet dog!! She deserves to be treated like a queen and is ready for her forever home!! Please ensure to read bio carefully to ensure you are able to meet Sadie's required needs.

Sadie is available for private meet & greets with approved applicants.
