Rye's Story

PLEASE DON'T CONTACT MASSPAWS

Small, sweet, and sassy describes this cute Aussie cattle dog from Hyannis, MA. Rye doesnt ask for much, however shes no lazy bones. As a healthy and fairly active nine-year-old, one of her favorite things is playing catch.

Rye is great off leash and loves going to the beach or exploring in the woods. Being on a leash isnt so easy for her, though she really likes long walks. Shell bark and lunge at other dogs, but some redirection helps get her back on track.

Rye is very cuddly and is good company. She is smart and knows some cues. She is afraid of loud noises, so prepare to comfort her during storms or fireworks. She is potty trained and can be left unattended while youre away. She is spayed and up-to-date on shots.

Rye can be your only pet, or live with a subdued resident dog. With other dogs, her personality is on the strong side, so shes not a match for dogs who also like being the boss. Currently she lives with a Jack Russell and another female cattle dog. She does well with the Jack, but theres no love lost between the two girls.

Rye was a puppy when she was originally adopted from a southern shelter. When she was four, her mom died in a tragic car accident. A dear friend who had always adored Rye became the new owner. Unfortunately circumstances changed and they had to move in with relatives who happen to have four children.

Rye is fine with the two older kids (9 and 13) who are mature and experienced with dogs. The other two are younger. Typically, herding breeds are not a good match for young, small, and/or rowdy kids. If you know cattle dogs, this environment doesnt work well.

Rye does well with routine and posiitve reinforcement. She is a loyal and loving dog who is in a difficult situation. A local rescue is helping her current person find a caring and appropriate family with dog experience. A house with a yard is preferred.

This is a home-to-home adoption.
