Rufus's Story

Hi, I'm Rufus—and I'm a pretty easygoing guy looking for my furever home!

I'm a 9-year-old gentleman who is friendly, low-maintenance, curious, and just happy to enjoy life. I may be getting older, but I still have plenty of personality—and I've got a few hobbies that keep me entertained!

I'm VERY curious! I like to explore my surroundings and investigate all the interesting things I find.

I LOVE hunting for frogs and mice! It's one of my favorite pastimes. I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way about a cat, though, so a cat-free home would be best for me. I promise I'm not trying to be difficult—I'm just following my instincts!

Here's a little more about me:

I'm good on a leash and enjoy getting out for walks.
Cars don't bother me, and neither does the mailman. I don't need to bark at every person who comes by.
I'm good with people and kids.
I like my chew toys and am perfectly happy entertaining myself.
I'm good at the vet, so those visits are pretty easy with me.
I'm crate trained, although I haven't actually lived inside a house yet.

Since I haven't had much experience living in a house, I'm looking for someone who understands that I'll need a little time and patience while I learn all about this new thing called "indoor living."

I might be a great fit for someone who has a secure yard where I can hang out during the workday, then come inside with my family at night and whenever the weather is too hot or too cold. I'm pretty low-maintenance, so I don't need to be entertained every minute of the day.

As for other dogs... I'm still figuring that one out. Some females seem to be okay with me, but I may be happiest as your one-and-only dog. A meet-and-greet would be the best way to see if we might be friends.

I'm not asking for much. A safe place to call home. A yard to explore. Some good walks. A few chew toys. A family who will give me time to learn. And, of course, someone who will love me for the curious, sweet old guy that I am.

I've got a lot of good years and good adventures left in me.

I'm Rufus. If you're looking for a friendly, easygoing companion with a little bit of a "frog and mouse detective" personality, maybe we're meant to be!

Want to meet me? Give my rescue mom a call at 901-570-1488!

P.S. If you have frogs in your yard, I may consider that a bonus feature.

Memphis and Midsouth Animal Advocates's Adoption Policy
I am careful and conservative......lots of information gathering, several meetings at their home and at the rescue. I contact their Vet references if they have cared for animals before. Mandatory three training sessions that I attend with them and the pet if they have never had a pet before. We supervise the introductions of their current animals and their prospective pet. We provide aftercare followup and advice for the lifetime of their pet. We insist in the contract that the pet comes back to us immediately if they don't work in their adoptive family. Our dogs in the Midsouth need to be indoor dogs, no chains or tethers unless their person is outside with them, such as gardening in the front yard or camping.
