Rudy's Story

Meet Rudy

Rudy is a 3-year-old, 45 lb black Pit mix with a white chest and a big heart for his people. Many of you may remember him as Rambo when he was adopted as a puppy in 2021.

Rudy is an incredibly smart, loyal, and affectionate dog. He's the perfect blend of active and relaxed — he loves being outside and enjoying a yard, but he's just as happy cuddled up on the couch with his favorite humans. He is crate trained, housebroken, leash trained, e-collar trained, neutered, and up to date on vet care. He has completed professional board-and-train and knows commands such as place, let's go, leave it, and even has doorbell manners. His family has invested heavily in his training and is committed to sharing everything they've learned to help his next home succeed.

Rudy thrives with adults and bonds deeply with his family. However, he is very uncomfortable around young children. While there has not been a bite, he will show clear stress signals (hair raised, growling, baring teeth) if children walk near or stand by him. Because of this, his family has carefully managed interactions and feels he would be happiest and safest in a child-free home or one with older, respectful teens.

With other dogs, Rudy can be selective. He prefers calm, mellow dogs that don't interact heavily and tends to do best with more mature canine companions. He has not been tested with cats.

Rudy can be a bit insecure at times and benefits from structure and leadership. He may need a few meetings to warm up to some new adults, but once he trusts you, he is deeply loving and devoted.

This decision has been heartbreaking for his family, but with four young children in the home, Rudy is simply not thriving in the current environment. They believe strongly that in the right calm household, he will absolutely flourish.

Rudy is looking for:
An adult-only or older teen home
A structured, calm environment
Possibly a mellow dog companion (or happy as the only dog)
A family committed to continuing his training foundation

If you're looking for a smart, affectionate, loyal companion and can offer Rudy the peaceful home he deserves, he may be your perfect match.

Currently we only adopt out within a 1 hour commute from the Buffalo Niagara airport. We accept any application outside of that area if the family has no other pets and is willing to come to buffalo for meet and greets with the dogs. If an applicant has other pets it is on a case by case basis weather the foster is willing to travel for the meet and greet. We will consider processing applications outside of Western New York and Rochester if the family has no other dogs in the home and is willing to come to Buffalo for the meet and greet. We do not provide transport services to out of town adopters. We do not adopt within Canada. What's Required to Adopt Required vetting for dogs: They must be spayed or neutered Be current on their rabies, distemper/parvo. Kennel cough/Bordatella is highly recommended but not required for dogs. If current animals are not vaccinated and spayed/neutered, the application will be denied unless there is a valid reason that it was medically necessary not to perform the procedure. Required vetting for Cats:? They must be spayed or neutered Be current on their rabies PLEASE NOTE: You must be 21 or older to adopt. Once your application is received we distribute to our volunteers for processing. First we will contact your vet reference if you current have pets living in the home or have had pets within the past two years. Next we will be contacting your personal references. Next is the home check. This visit is a non dog meeting where a volunteer will meet with you and the members of your household to discuss the adoption process, review the home, the yard and answer any questions you may have. Once the home visit is completed and if you are approved, you will be notified and can then express interest in a dog.
