RUDY's Story

Rudy is very near and dear to our hearts here at Mercy, but he doesn't show well at adoption events at all and I think that is why he's been here as long as he has. Rudy was born in the woods with his siblings in a rural area that had a lot of stray dogs. A rescue partner of ours who often goes out to feed the feral dogs knew Rudy from the time he was born until he was about 2 1/2 years old. One day she showed up to feed and Rudy was very injured on his paw with bone exposed. Because of this, she knew the other pack dogs were bullying him and she was worried for his life. Despite the fact that she ran a senior only dog rescue, she rescued him and quickly he was too much for the small seniors due to his size and energy so she contacted us. She even had a whole facebook page dedicated to his journey, all of his photos, all of his new experiences and his personality beamed through the photos.

I will be honest that my first introduction with Rudy was not a pleasant one. He was absolutely terrified and didn't understand why he had been taken from his pack, then the only human he's ever known, to these strange girls at Mercy.
Upon meeting him, I was attempting to swap out his collar and out of fear, he nipped at me. For 3 days, I was very cautious with him and did a ton of positive reinforcement with treats, walkies, toys, and Rudy quickly became a very social happy dog who I could do absolutely anything to without issue. He has now been in our program for nearly 2 years, met many other people at our facility, met tons of dog friends big and small and watched them all leave one by one but he remains. I have made it a point to take Rudy on car rides, on walks, out in public and occasionally to my home for the weekend so he has a break from boarding.

This dog is seriously SO goofy. Sensitive. stubborn. adorable. and loyal. He is just a quirky guy who I think needs a couple of days to adapt to a new environment at his own pace to understand that he's safe and it's smooth sailing from there. Rudy can be vocal but in a good way. He likes to talk when he's happy, or playing and that can be off putting to SOME dogs but most of them know him now and aren't bothered by this. he is potty trained, and demanding when he needs to go out. He is more intimidated by dogs larger than him at first and will be cautious while he feels them out and then he will play and play for hours. I tried to take him to a large adoption event one day and he got very overwhelmed and i ended up bringing him back to boarding before we ever made it there because he just seemed panicked in the car. Rudy is alllll personality and 94% of it is amazing fun personality, but he struggles with change and therefor I would be more comfortable with a foster to adopt situation if it ever comes down to it.

The lady who initially rescued ready sponsored his adoption fee to a good home. We have dna tested him and he is a pit, lab, bulldog, australian cattle dog. He comes with a special kennel to keep him safe as the first couple of days in any environment that he's not familiar with, he panics and acts a bit ridiculous. This has made it really hard for us to find him a home. I believe in this dog more than I do most, but he's a non descript brown pittie mix and most dont even look his way. He is seriously the sweetest boy if you are willing to get to know him. Rudy LOVES balls, plush toys, and nylabones and he's very food motivated. He knows sit. he will let you trim his nails but dont even dream of putting him in a bathtub. lol He is a bit of a drama queen when it comes to water. He is great on a leash as long as there aren't birds or cats for him to want to chase. We walk at a local park now and then and he does amazing. his zoomies are to die for when we let him off leash to play in the yard with his friends here at haven. Rudy has a clean bill of health, is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and current on flea tick and heartworm prevention. his adoption fee is sponsored to an approved adopter, however the kennel we will send him with is $400 and he NEEDS this. We would like you to return this kennel to us within 3 months or pay $200 to keep it . You may be able to find one on marketplace or used on another platform cheaper so i will leave that up to the adopters. Rudy must be adopted within the United States. if you're interested in meeting him, please go to mercysakes2ndchancerescue.com to submit an application.

Donate to RUDYS ongoing care via any of the following platforms!
paypal.me/mercysakes (email mercysakes2ndchancedogs@gmail.com)
cashapp $mercysakesrescue (sasha smith - founder)
venmo @mercysakesrescue (sasha smith - last four-4545)
direct to our vet (catoosa small animal hospital on mercy sakes account) 918-266-4090
via mail to mercy sakes 1219 S Memorial Drive Tulsa OK 74112
