He loves to go hiking and is the best walking partner!<br/><br/>Once a somewhat anxious dog (understandable, NYC is not the same as Africa) he is now .quite confident in his neighborhood.<br/><br/>Ruby is a courtesy post—Red Hook Dog Rescue is helping his owners responsibly rehome him. <br/><br/>Ruby is being rehomed because he is now living with a toddler and he finds this stressful. He also has a history of some fear-based resource guarding. Ruby has had great training and has been successful in getting over his fears, but in a small NYC apartment it is hard to keep toddler and dog separated.<br/>. <br/>Ruby can be protective of his home but is social and calm with other dogs on walks.<br/><br/>Ruby thrives with predictable routines and calm and gentle leadership. Red Hook Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
To adopt a dog from Red Hook Dog Rescue, you must fill out our online application. Please fill in each blank on the application using n/a if the question is irrelavant to you. If you encounter any issues please email us and we will gladly assist you. Upon receiving your application we will review it and reach out for a phone conversation, then we will call your references and landlord (if applicable) and if your application is approved we will set up a meet and greet with the pup you are interested in. If you intend on adopting or fostering the pup a volunteer will visit your home to make sure it is a proper environment for one of our dogs and a decision will be made by the rescue group about the placement. Please understand that the process is lengthy and it does take time but that's only because we care about our dogs and want to make sure they are in the best possible home to ensure their success. ?Adopters must be over 21 years old. If you have other pets we require that they are spayed/neutered and up to date with shots; we will be contacting your veterinarian to confirm. We like do a 1 month trial, "foster to adopt"; what this means is if you want to adopt you will be fostering first to ensure it is a good fit. We are totally available to help you during this period. When we bring the dog to you we will ask that you fill out our adoption contract and will ask you for a check for the adoption fee, We hold your check until the end of the trial and only will deposit it when we all agree that we have made a good match. We believe that this helps alleviate stress on everyone involved, take that month to get to know each other and learn about each other. We ask that you update us weekly during the foster period. If there are question or issues we want to help>. We have trainers on our team and are here to help make a successsful matches We are Force Free trainers and follow the guidelines of the Pet Professional Guild and the American Veterinary Society "The Force-Free Method - Informed by Science, Guided by Empathy, Governed by Ethics" TM PPG promotes the use of positive operant and respondent training methods, both personally and professionally, and holds that all training should be conducted in a manner that encourages pets to enjoy the process, which will, in turn, lead them to become more confident and well-adjusted pets. PPG members optimize the use of applied behavior analysis to systematically identify and resolve problem behaviors using the least aversive and intrusive methods, tools and equipment. Further, both PPG and its members actively recommend against the use of any training tools and equipment whose purpose and/or intent is to interrupt or redirect behavior using fear, force or pain". Our adoption fees range from $300 for dogs over a year old and $400 for puppies and young purebred dogs ?
