Ruby's Story

This sweet girl is Ruby and she's a very sweet Shepherd mix who is only 35-40 pounds so she's a perfect medium sized girl. Her pictures show how beautiful she is and you can see she has a white heart on her chest which proves she's a lovebug! She's just a year old and lived with a family who had a toddler who she loved. The family was not able to spend enough time with Ruby and they didn't have a fenced yard for her to play in so decided the best thing for sweet Ruby was to find her a new loving home. She a wonderful girl who is very smart, knows her commands and is very obedient. She loves to play with other dogs and is great with everyone she meets including kiddos. She's house-trained and crate-trained and just waiting to join a loving and happy family who will cherish her forever. We think she'll do best with a fully fenced yard. Long Road Home's Adoption Policy

Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
