Rosie's Story
This sweet angel is Rosie!

Rosie is a thirteen year old female chihuahua who was rescued from deplorable conditions after her owner had a stroke and could not care for her. Rosie was quite underweight at intake and is now weighing in at 4.5 pounds, but could still stand to gain more.

Rosie is your typical senior chi. She loves her sleep and spends a great deal of time in her favorite donut pet bed, under several blankets. She loves sun bathing. She has no interest in toys, but does have times where she feels playful and wants her foster mom to chase her back to her bed, where she enjoys pets and giving kisses. She gets along fine with the other dogs in her foster home. Mostly they leave each other alone, though Rosie sometimes gets curious and wants to sniff their butts to say hi! (her foster siblings are, sadly, not receptive to this). Rosie has not proven to be a lap dog in her foster home the past few months, though she is affectionate with her foster parents when they come to her. She likes to be petted and loves to give kisses on her own terms, which usually means her foster parent coming to give her attention while she squiggles around in her bed or in a crate. She would do best in a quiet home without young children. She has not been cat tested.

Rosie doesn’t seem to have had much experience (if at all) on a leash or on walks. She doesn’t seem to like to wear a harness and when her foster parents have tried to walk her, she mostly just stands there. She might never be interested in going for walks. However, she would do really great with a home with a fenced yard. On nice days she just loves to walk around and sniff in the yard and one of her favorite things is laying in the yard and sun bathing on nice days.

Rosie is mostly potty trained. Occasionally she can have accidents but she has done well with getting into a routine going potty outside and is great with using pee pads when she doesn’t get taken outside when needed. She does seem to get confused with rugs on the floor and can mistake them as pee pads. Once her foster home removed the rugs there were no issues.

Rosie is spayed and earlier this year (4/10/26) had a dental cleaning in which most of her top teeth were removed. Though soft food would be ideal for her, Rosie is very particular about what she eats, and often prefers dry kibble (Purina Pro Plan toy breed blend). Other times, she may want wet food. She also gets into periods of time where she really wants air fried salmon! We have had some challenges with Rosie in regards to her eating. She has been evaluated by multiple vets over her appetite and no medical cause for her inconsistent appetite. She tends to not want to eat until later in the day. Some days she only eats once/day and other days she may eat twice. When she is hungry, she will let you know. She will bark at her foster parents, demanding food. She can be bossy when food is involved! She mostly doesn’t bark other than when she is wanting fed, or sometimes when she wants attention.

Rosie has been fully vetted and is up to date on vaccinations. She is heartworm negative and takes monthly heartworm prevention.

Rosie’s adoption donation is $250.

If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below.

To submit an application go here: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled.

Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative.

Reference checks and a home visit are required so SE dogs can only be adopted in NC/SC, VA, TN, AL, MD and GA.
