Sweet baby Rosie was dropped off at a kill shelter a few weeks ago because she cried all night and the owners were tired of dealing with her. She’s a baby learning to be without her mama and siblings. Since being in the rescue for just a couple of weeks Rosie has been returned to a pack environment complete with another puppy a bit older and several senior dogs plus a cat who thinks she is very annoying but tolerates her giving him kisses. She has learned to sleep in a crate at night without crying, first with another puppy and now by herself as long as she can see her foster mom she falls asleep and sleeps through the night. During the day Rosie has learned to use a pee pad if she can’t make it outside quickly enough in the morning and sometimes at other times during the day when she very involved in playing or napping and other puppy past times. She’s a baby and potty training this is all part of a bigger learning process.

At this stage she is pretty reliable but her foster mom closely supervises her at all times. She is crated for short times when her foster mom cannot be “hands on”, never longer than appropriate for her age. She is also in the process of being vaccinated to be protected from deadly puppy diseases. She will not be allowed in any public space where there is risk for a u vaccinated puppy to be exposed to distemper or parvovirus.
Once she is fully vaccinated at about 20-24 weeks she will be protected from these diseases & will have received a rabies vaccine.
The goal for the next 8 weeks is to place Rosie as a foster with her approved adopter until she is spayed at 6 months when her vetting will be complete. The foster/adopter will manage her vet visits, training and enjoy the adorable puppy months which will allow her to bond with her forever family instead of a temporary foster mom who will later disappear from her young life. Applications will be accepted from potential adopters who understand these are very important months for her. How she is treated will affect her confidence for a lifetime. Her foster mom will be happy to work with her adopters to make the transition as easy as possible for Rosie. She needs to feel safe and loved and absolutely never spends another night crying all night alone and scared.

Her new family will get all the best memories plus the love and companionship of a forever family member who is cherished.

Adoption applications should be filled out to expedite the process:

** Please note: Due to their size, our dogs are not suitable for homes with children under 5.

The only way to find out if one of our pups will be a good fit in your home is to fill out the online application on the Lil Paws website. Lil Paws is a very small organization, our volunteer time is reserved for interested persons who have filled out the application to adopt.

We do not have a facility, all dogs are fostered in the homes of our volunteers. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue and other Petite Paws, please visit our website at www.lilpaws.org and fill out an adoption application. This is the first step in our adoption process. Our goal is to place our dogs in safe, stable and loving homes in the Austin Metropolitan area. Thanks for looking!

Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue and other Petite Paws depends on donations to keep the dogs in our program healthy. Many health issues are taken care of before a dog leaves a rescue: spaying, neutering, immunizations, dental care, and in some cases major surgery. Because of the cost of this care, donations are essential to enable us to continue our work. If you would like to show appreciation for what we do and help us continue to do it please go to our website homepage and click the donate button. We thank you in advance for your support.
