Rosie

Rosie is a dog with a special place in the hearts of people involved with START II. She initially came to the shelter in 2024 after neglect and cruelty, which involved starvation. We eventually also discovered that she has pancreatic insufficiency, which is treatable but results in difficulty digesting food and absorbing nutrients. This combination has made Rosie extremely fixated on food and eating, so she has both medical and behavioral special needs.<br/><br/>Despite these difficulties, Rosie has always been a sweet dog who loves to run and chase a ball. Even with medical and behavioral issues, she has always won people over with her sweet face and silliness.<br/><br/>Rosie is spayed and vaccinated.<br/><br/>However, because of her fixation in food, caring for Rosie is a real challenge. She has had two surgeries to remove foreign bodies she ingested, and she needs careful supervision to make sure doesn't eat a toy or other indigestible object. Rosie needs an experienced dog owner who can work with redirecting her food fixation to the play she loves so much. She also needs a strict prescription diet for life, with added pancreatic enzymes and vitamin B12 injections.<br/><br/>We're hoping we can find a special person who has enough love in their hearts that they can let that love shine through all the challenges and let Rosie shine. At her heart, she's a young (2-3years old) dog with a vibrant spirit, despite going through so much in her life and only knowing life in a shelter for so long.<br/><br/>Rosie does not get along well with most other dogs and is probably best off being the only dog in a home.
