Roscoe (Russell)'s Story

MEET ROSCOE

Male, neutered
Approx. Age: 4.5 years
Approx. Weight: 80 lbs
Activity level: Low-Moderate (he matches your energy!)

Introducing Roscoe! Rescued in July 2023, Roscoe is now one of the longest dogs in care with K9 Advocacy Manitoba and we can’t figure out why!

He is as loveable as they come. Roscoe is equally happy to join you on an adventure as he is to snuggle on the couch all night. While he may only have partial vision (he was born blind in one eye), this doesn’t slow him down at all. He can fetch a ball with the best of them! (And he will certainly fetch every ball he can see)

Roscoe is not interested in food or in destructive chewing. His foster mom leaves his food bag out on the floor and he’s never once ripped into it while unattended! Because he is non-destructive, he is left to free roam when alone. He is not yet kennel trained, but we’re certain kennel training would be possible with positive reinforcement. Roscoe lives to please and will eagerly learn commands in exchange for some gentle praise and a scratch on the ears.

In training, Roscoe has worked very hard on leash reactivity and impulse control, even developing the ability to “leave it” when a backyard bunny or squirrel is sitting right in front of him! However, he still has a prey drive that is easily triggered due to his impaired eyesight. Because of this, Roscoe is not suitable for a home with cats or small dogs.

While Roscoe has been around children with ease, he is best suited for a space with no children due to his preference for a gentle touch and a peaceful environment to call home.

When it comes to large dogs, Roscoe can be selective. However, he has made many friends when he’s allowed to have a slow and controlled introduction, and we’re confident he will make many more. He would thrive in a home with a large, confident female dog who is comfortable with some roughhouse style play, and she could show him that the world isn’t too scary.
Roscoe would also be happy to be the only dog in the home and to get all of the belly rubs and couch snuggles for himself.

If you think you’re ready for the unconditional love that Roscoe is so eager to give, complete an adoption application today to set up a meet ‘n greet with this very good boy!

K9 Advocacy's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION PROCESS Adoption Application: Complete the adoption form at the bottom of this page Phone Screening: Once your adoption application has been received, selected applicants will be contacted by one of K9 Adoption Team members who will do a phone screening with you. This is an opportunity to go over your adoption application and discuss the K9 adoption process. References will be called Meeting the K9 Advocacy Dog: If you meet the preliminary screening criteria, the Adoption Coordinator will set up a chat between the K9 Adoption team, the foster and the applicant and an initial meeting between you and the K9 Advocacy dog will be set up. This gives you a chance to meet the dog and gives the foster parent or team member a chance to meet you. We do prefer to do the meeting at the applicants residence so the adoptable dog has a chance to meet any other animals in the home and to complete the home check at the same time. After the meeting, you will have 24 hours to decide if you would like to: - Puppies - proceed with adoption - Adult dogs - proceed with the two week adoption trial Two week trial period will begin: Arrangements will be made to start the 2 week adoption trial within 3 days. You will continue to use your chat with the adoption team to answer any questions you have while completing the trial. The adoption fee must be paid prior to the 2 week trial starting. The adoption fee can be sent to k9advocacymanitoba@gmail.com with the dogs name included in the message line. Finalizing the Adoption: For puppie and for adults; if both you and the team member agree to move forward with the adoption, arrangements can be made to finalize the adoption. Adoption Fee: Puppy: $500 (under 6 months) Teen/Adult: $400 (over 6 months) Small Breed: $500 Senior: $200 (over 7 years) Adoption fees include: Spay / Neuter Parvo/Distemper Vaccines Rabies Vaccines 2-3 Dewormings 4DX testing if required 6 weeks free Pet Insurance Please note: Adoption fees for puppies under 6 months will not be refunded.
