Roscoe Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Toms River, NJ

Meet Roscoe, the 2-year-old Catahoula mix who's a gentle giant with a heart as big as his 65 lb frame. Roscoe is your quintessential lap dog trapped in a big dog's body, always ready to cuddle up but just as eager to play and please.

Roscoe is a bundle of love and loyalty, with a fondness for toys—balls, in particular—and an endless capacity for affection. He’s incredibly food motivated, making his training sessions both fun and rewarding, though he’s still perfecting his leash skills. He’s a big boy who doesn’t quite understand his size, so a home with older children would be ideal, and he'd prefer a cat-free environment as he tends to see them as a chase challenge.

Currently, Roscoe is enjoying his days with Molly, a Carolina dog who matches his playfulness. While he hasn't been introduced to all the dogs in his current foster home, he's shown no signs of aggression towards any dogs he's observed from a distance or through barriers.

One of Roscoe's favorite pastimes is going for car rides. He absolutely loves to hop in and feel the breeze on his face, making every trip an adventure worth savoring. Whether it’s a quick jaunt around town or a longer excursion, he’s always ready for the ride.

Roscoe’s past may have had its rough patches—he was found following two teenagers around after having been subjected to less than kind treatment by a previous owner, evident from the BBs under his skin and his cautiousness around taking food directly from hands. Despite this, Roscoe's resilience shines through. He expresses his gratitude through big smiles, especially when you scratch under his chin, and has learned to trust again, showing affection with a polite kiss after his meals are set down.

Activity-wise, Roscoe is as versatile as they come. He’s as happy to lounge by your side as he is to play in a yard. He doesn’t need an overly active family but enjoys having space to roam and explore. He’s well crate trained and if given enough mental stimulation and chew toys, he shows no interest in being destructive.

Roscoe is looking for a forever home where he can continue to learn that the world can be a kind place, where he can give and receive love freely, and where his sweet nature will be cherished.
