Rory's Story

ay hello to Rory (affectionately known as Roo)! CSRA rescued this lovely girl from a
puppy mill in March of 2025, and she is only now getting the courage to introduce herself.
Roo is a gentle, shy girl who is beginning to understand the joy of being a beloved family member. Rescued from a horrific breeding situation, she is taking baby steps every day. She would prefer a calm, patient, female-only home.
Roo feels safest around other dogs and will need a home with a gentle, confident dog (or two!) to act as a mentor and friend. New people make her nervous, but she warms up quickly and will ask her person for pets and reassurance. For much of theday, Roo hangs out in or near her covered crate "den" and waits for her foster mom to do something interesting. She does check in regularly for pets and likes to keep her foster mom in sight, just in case there are snacks.
Yes, Roo is very food motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement and praise. She has started to come when called, and wiggles and bounces when she's told "good girl!"
She's a joy to work with because every tail wag and tiny moment of trust feels like winning the lottery. But there is a catch. Like many dogs from indoor breeding operations, "outside" is a new and terrifying experience for her. For this reason, housebreaking has been slow, and Roo still uses potty pads. She is not yet able to walk
on a leash without hunkering down, and at around 28lbs, she can be a lot to carry. Roo will likely not ever be a "go for walks in the park"; or "hang out on the restaurant patio" type of girl. Loud sounds, starling noises, fast hand motions, or sudden or abrupt experiences are hard for her, and she will hide until she feels safe again. She currently takesinexpensive medication to help with anxiety.
Roo is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can continue to grow at her own pace. If you've got a big heart, a soft spot for the underdogs, and maybe a treat or
two in your pocket, she might just be your perfect companion. Roo is estimated to be 5 years old.
Interested in adoption? Our adoptions require an approved application which you can
find on our website. Already approved applicants can email us
at woof@austincockerrescue.org to let us know of your interest. Cocker Spaniel Rescue
of Austin/San Antonio adopts to applicants within the state of Texas. Prospective
adopters must meet the dog(s) in which they are interested in person, to determine
compatibility. We do not ship animals or provide transport.
