Rook's Story

Meet Rook!

Rook is an almost 11 -month-old, 15-pound Havanese who is absolutely adorable and just beginning his journey out of puppy mill life. He is a little reserved and shy at first, but he warms up to people fairly quickly once he feels safe.

Being picked up can still make Rook nervous, and he may try to squirm away, but he is already becoming more comfortable with gentle, patient handling. Once he settles, he enjoys sitting with his person and being petted in your lap. We have not yet begun leash training or formal training, as his focus right now is building confidence. He is currently getting used to wearing a collar and having a drag lead behind him, and he is doing well with that at his own pace.

Rook does very well in a crate and finds comfort in having a safe, predictable space. Where he truly comes alive is with other dogs. He gets so excited when he sees them-his whole body wiggles, his tail wags nonstop, and he happily barks in excitement. He does not enjoy being separated from other dogs and clearly wants to be part of the fun, whether he is loose in the house or hanging out in a puppy pen.

Because of this, Rook would likely thrive in a home with another dog, especially a playful one who can help show him the world and build his confidence. Having lived most of his life in a crate, Rook is still learning how to be a dog, and he will benefit greatly from a canine companion who can model confidence and curiosity.

Rook is fostered in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. His adoption fee is $450.00.

To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
