Rook's Story

I Survive, Now I Need a Family to Thrive!

My name is Rook, and I have a story above and beyond your average rescue. When I was young, I was struck by a car and left with neurological spine damage. Back then, I had a loving family to help me through my recovery, and I continued to be loved and cared for when the lasting damage left me fecally incontinent. But in the wake of a divorce where neither parent could bring me with them, they were forced to surrender me to the shelter.

I'm an eight-year-old survivor, and I promise I'm exceptionally sweet and people-oriented. A 40-pound Shepard mix (or perhaps Cattle Dog—it’s hard to say!), I'm just the right size for snuggles and care. Well-behaved, I walk well on a leash, do well in my kennel, and show good manners toward other dogs. I'm such a good boy that would delight any family!

Despite my injury, I can walk, sit, and lay down normally, and have no trouble when it comes to urinating. I'm simply unaware of my bowel movements and need a bit of extra care to keep things tidy. My incontinence is manageable with regular high-fiber feedings and routine outside access, and I've used diapers in the past as well.

My special needs sadly promise a very difficult road for me to find a family, but it’s not hopeless. If you have a place in your home for a sweetheart, we hope you’ll reach out.

Ready for your next best friend?
