Rook's Story

🐾 ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: ROOK 🐾

📍Mount Vernon, WA
~ DOB: 7/1/24
⚖️ 32#

Rook is a smart, sensitive, and quirky little guy who has come a long way and is ready to find the right home thanks to our friends at Rocket Dog Academy.

Rook is a young mixed breed with a big personality and an even bigger heart once he feels safe. He’s playful, social, and loves engaging with his people and dog friends; especially once he’s settled into a routine he understands.

✨ What Rook Is Doing Well
• Walking, recalling, and navigating spaces confidently once he knows the routine
• Solid recall and obedience foundations (sit, place, follow)
• Sleeping through the night quietly
• Playing well with select dogs (he especially enjoys Malinois friends like Viggo, Meg, and Hazel)
• Comfortable wearing a muzzle as part of a thoughtful safety plan
• Much improved handling: can now be gently led by the collar and tolerates head/neck work far better than when he arrived

🐕 Dog Social Skills
Rook does best with one or two dogs at a time and enjoys play, though he can be enthusiastic and needs breaks. With new dogs, he may posture a bit at first (circling, raised hackles), but once he engages, he typically relaxes and wants to socialize. This appears to be more confidence-related than true aggression.

🧠 The Honest Part
Rook is a sensitive, attachment-oriented dog. He forms strong bonds with people and can become anxious if separated from them suddenly. When overwhelmed, he may vocalize or need quiet time in a crate to reset.

He is still sensitive to sudden reaching toward his head or collar, especially by people he doesn’t know well. Because of this, he’s not a good fit for homes with children or a lot of unpredictability.

🏡 Ideal Home for Rook
• A calm, stable environment with consistent routine
• An experienced, patient adopter willing to go slow and build trust
• Best as an only dog, or with one neutral, easygoing dog under structure
• No cats, no kids
• Someone who appreciates a dog that thinks, feels deeply, and needs time to settle

💛 Why He’s Worth It
Rook is funny, engaging, and incredibly rewarding for the right person. He’s the kind of dog who blossoms when he feels understood. With consistency and a steady home, he has all the makings of a loyal, entertaining, and deeply bonded companion.

If you think you might be the right match for Rook, please reach out; this little guy is ready for his person.

#woofdogrook #malinois #woofprojectrescue #adoptorfoster
