Romeo's Story

Meet Romeo!! (case #8246)

Romeo is about five months old, and his name couldn’t be more fitting. This sweet Lab cross has endless love to give and isn’t shy about sharing it. His favourite thing in the world is running straight over, planting himself in your lap, and settling in for a long snuggle. Personal space? Romeo’s never heard of it — and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Despite being a young pup, Romeo already has some wonderful manners. He’s a dream in his crate at night, settling within about five minutes and sleeping quietly until morning. He’s also crated during the day while we’re at work and does well with that routine.

Romeo currently lives with a 3.5-year-old male retriever, and the two get along beautifully. They happily take turns initiating play and love running around the yard together. Just as importantly, Romeo understands when the other dog needs a little space and will settle down on his own. When passing other dogs on walks, Romeo shows interest but calmly keeps moving along.

He’s also been fantastic with kids. Like any true cuddle enthusiast, he initially tried to climb onto their laps on the couch, but when they ask him to get down, he listens well.

Romeo has shown no signs of resource guarding with either food or toys. He happily lets us handle his food dish, and he and his canine buddy regularly swap toys without any issues. He’s also comfortable having his ears and paws handled, which will make grooming and vet visits much easier as he grows.

On leash, Romeo walks nicely and is eager to follow direction. He’s a big, energetic puppy, but he’s not overly rambunctious or destructive. He just needs the normal outlets and guidance that any young dog does.

Housetraining is still a work in progress, but Romeo clearly understands that outside is where he’s supposed to go. He’s only had one pee accident indoors so far, which is excellent progress for a pup his age.

Romeo is the kind of dog who bonds deeply with his people and fills a home with affection. Whoever decides to welcome this lovable boy into their family is going to be incredibly lucky.
