Romaine's Story

Sometimes as a rescuer you can't help but be overcome with emotion because despite your best attempts, you just can't comprehend how such a sweet amazing animal can be so let down by people who promised to care and protect him. I wish Romaine had a happy story filled with overcoming obstacles and the love his forever family has for him, but sadly for poor Romaine (and so many dogs like him) this isn't his reality.

Romaine was brought into boarding for what was supposed to be a 2 day stay, but his previous owner, 4 months after adopting him from the shelter, abandoned him with no intention of getting him. After about a month, we saw him go from an overly friendly, happy guy to a melancholy and depressed guy. He stopped eating all his food, even the yogurt and blueberries meal topper that was his favorite, which he normally would inhale, but sadly, he started to snub it. His ribs started to show and he became cage brave with dogs walking past his kennel. We started to do everything in our power to make him feel loved. Spoiled him with car rides and McDonald's hamburgers and lots of one on one play, and he started to slowly gain back his weight. He has developed a deep bond with all our staff. He even has started to ignore dogs and has been in a few play groups.

Romaine is one of 4 dogs that have been in our program well over 2 years. He has spent holidays with us, watched the seasons change, and started to understand this is his home and despite all the love, great food, and play time we all give him, it's still not a home and this breaks my heart. We keep promising him his forever is coming but every time I promise him lately, my heart sinks a bit more because I am starting to wonder myself if I'm promising a lie to this beautiful soul. Romaine deserves a forever home. He deserves all the attention and a couch to call his own. I hate that he's been let down by people he loved so much. In his almost 3 years on this earth, he's spent more time in a shelter than in a home, and for a being that only has 10-12 good years on this planet, that is so sad!

Romaine is a silly dude and a typical bully mix. He is medium energy level and can multitask. He cuddles like a champ but also loves to run and play. He walks ok on a leash but could use a refresher. He loves kids (we ask children over 8 as he's a medium sized guy and can knock littles over) and is crate trained. He was dog selective upon entering our program, but has proven through time, he can be with passive mellow dogs. He loves the ladies lol. He is such a happy, full of joy kinda guy and despite what humans have done to him, he loves people.

If Romaine looks like a guy you would like to share your life with please fill out an application at operationsaves.com. His adoption fee has been sponsored, so you can take him home today for $0. We want him to find the best forever family who will not let him down again.
