Meet Roma

Roma was rescued from the shelter. She was very matted and sick. When we first saw her, she was in the medical section, all curled up, recovering from dental cleaning/extraction and kennel cough. Her ID card stated she was 17 years old. But, when we got her out, her records stated she was a 12-year-old terrier mix. Her records also showed she had other health issues; a heart murmur grade 2, skin infection, being treated with antibiotics, and severe dental tartar, before the dental and extractions. She only has most of her lower left side teeth. Roma was very malnourished to the point you could see her bones and was deemed anemic. The shelter took good care of her, giving her meds, taking radiographs and blood work. With all this information, we took her to our vet to get her rechecked. They did additional blood work to try to figure out her anemia and malnourishment but could not really pinpoint it. Her kidney and liver levels were a bit high but that was not the cause. They even looked for parasites, but none were found. We figured her age, bad diet, dental infection, and bad owners were the cause.

In a foster home, receiving good care and a better diet, she is now doing much better, with her kidney and liver levels back to normal. She's gained weight and her hair has grown. She even has a foster brother who engages her in play. She's a playful and loving dog who likes to curl up next to you or get comfy on your lap. Roma is a dear and deserves a good home to live out the rest of her years.
