Rocky's Story

Meet Rocky! Don’t let his 18-pound size fool you — this ~8-year-old terrier mix has a heart as big as they come. He has an unfortunate past and was rescued from a home with a leg that had been broken for over a year. Rocky recently had that front leg amputated, but he’s adjusting beautifully and still enjoys being his happy, fun-loving self.

Rocky will need a patient and understanding home that can give him time to decompress and build trust. He can be fearful in new situations especially if he feels pushed or overwhelmed, so a home that respects his boundaries and children 12+ is important.

Once he feels safe, Rocky’s sweet personality really shines. He loves being near his people, soaking up affection, and celebrating life’s little joys. He’s a resilient boy with lots of love to give — he just needs someone willing to meet him where he’s at.

Rocky loves dogs of all sizes. He has not been tested with cats but with his personality, we feel he would do okay with proper introduction to a dog friendly one.

Rocky loves the outdoors and would love a home with a fenced in yard. He is potty trained. He does not love the confinement of a crate but does well in a small penned area with no roof, or loose in the house.

Rocky would be a wonderful companion for someone who understands that healing takes time and compassion. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big story and even bigger heart, Rocky may be the buddy for you!

Rocky’s adoption fee is $400. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. All Midwest dogs are required to be on year round heartworm prevention. Applications can be completed at www.MidwestSmallBreedRescue.org.

Hello future adopters! If you find a pet you would like to apply for, please submit an application. One of our adoption representatives will be in contact if your application seems like a good fit. Once an application is screened, a representative will do a vet check to make sure your current and previous pets were taken care of. Once that is completed, a landlord check is often completed if you are renting. Provided that is properly screened, a representative will schedule a meet and home visit for the prospective pet.
