Rocky's Story

Meet Rocky — The Little Fighter With a Champion’s Heart

Yo, Adrian!

Meet Rocky, a 4-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua/terrier mix who may be small enough to tuck under your arm, but has the heart of a heavyweight champion.

Rocky came to Albert’s Dog Lounge as a stray from Chicago. We don’t know exactly what life looked like before he found his way to us, but whatever his first few rounds were like, Rocky is officially ready for the good life.

And this little guy? He’s got personality.

Rocky is cuddly, social, playful, and ridiculously cute, especially when he breaks out his signature little trot. And then there’s the floppy ear. That floppy ear deserves its own championship belt.

He’s a big fan of other small dogs and absolutely loves playing with his older Yorkie buddy. He also gets along beautifully with his foster family's Chihuahuas and Chi mixes. Rocky is moderately active, enjoys his fun, and then is perfectly happy to settle in for some serious snuggling.

His preferred sleeping arrangement? In bed with his people, obviously. But Rocky is also perfectly content to sleep on the couch or in his kennel.

He knows sit and come, rarely barks, and hasn't shown any particular fears. He's good with adults and children, both older and younger.

Now, every champion has something they're still working on.

Rocky has done some indoor marking, so he's currently wearing a belly band when he's loose in the house. He was neutered very recently, and we're hopeful that will help reduce the marking as his hormones settle. His family will need to continue working patiently and consistently on house manners.

He's also a little escape artist. Rocky can make a break for an open door and has managed to sneak out of a fence before, so his future family needs to be diligent about doors, gates, and supervision. Rocky is small. Rocky is fast. Rocky has apparently watched enough action movies to know how to make an escape.

He's also shown a couple of instances of guarding his favorite 7-year-old human, so his adopters should be prepared to continue working on appropriate boundaries around people he becomes attached to. Otherwise, he's a happy little guy who loves attention and enjoys being part of the action.

Rocky's Championship Stats

Age: 4
Weight: 7 pounds of pure determination
Breed: Chihuahua/terrier mix
Fostered in: Madison, Wisconsin
Energy level: Moderate
Barking: Low — Rocky saves his energy for the important stuff
Dog friends: Yes, especially small dogs
Cats: Unknown
Kids: Good with children, with appropriate supervision and boundaries
Crate trained: Yes
House trained: Still working on it
Favorite activity: Cuddling
Signature move: The Cute Little Trot
Best feature: That magnificent floppy ear
Walk-out song: Getting Jiggy Wit It by Will Smith
Dream retirement: Somewhere tropical, because Rocky has officially retired from Wisconsin winters

When he's not busy being adorable, Rocky dreams of knitting himself soft blankets to snuggle in. Tough guys can have a soft side too!

Because beneath all the Rocky Balboa jokes is the real story:

This little guy has been through enough. Now he's looking for his forever corner. He doesn't need a mansion. He doesn't need a trophy. He doesn't need a cheering crowd. He needs someone who will give him a safe home, a soft bed, a little patience while he learns the rules, and the kind of love that makes a dog realize he has finally won the fight that matters most.

Rocky is ready for his forever family.

And if you're looking for a 7-pound sidekick with a floppy ear, a hilarious little trot, a serious cuddling habit, and enough personality to fill a room...
