Rocko's Story

This dog came to us from a hoarding situation and is very fearful and unsocialized. He is very frightened of being approached and picked up, but allows handling once he is held.

In his kennel, he tends to stay toward the back and close to the ground, especially when he feels unsure. He does not seek out human interaction yet but will come up to sniff a human when they are still and quiet. He is not currently comfortable walking on a leash and may become fearful or avoidant if approached too quickly.

This boy will need a patient adopter who understands that building his confidence will take time. He may need many weeks or even months to become comfortable with people and his new surroundings, and he may always be cautious around unfamiliar people. He feels more comfortable with dogs than humans, and a calm, confident, friendly canine companion may help him feel more secure and learn that people and new experiences can be safe.

He would do best with someone who has experience with fearful or unsocialized dogs and is willing to let him progress at his own pace. his behavior around children is currently unknown, so a home without children or with older, dog-savvy children may be the safest starting point.

He has a long way to go, but with patience, consistency, and plenty of love, we hope to see this little boy discover the confidence he has never had the chance to build.
