River's Story

Meet River!

River is a 7 month old, very tiny cattle dog, fully grown at 23 lbs.

River got his namesake because that's where he was abandoned with his 2 sisters. They were found cold and cuddled together at the bank of a river.

Despite such a rough start, he is sweet as can be and enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes. He wants to chase cats, but with slow introduction, he may do well with dog-savvy cats.

He adjusts well to new environments: if you want to snuggle, he'd love to do that with you. If you want to go on a hike, he'd have fun with that as well (though he's still learning what a leash is).

He is scared of the vet and fear-peed during vaccines. Middle school age children (or older) who wouldn’t overwhelm him would be best. He's very sweet, but needs his boundaries respected.

Force-free, positive training methods have been beneficial for him and we'd ask his adopter to keep him on this path.

If you're interested in River, please request an adoption application at herdinghomerescue@gmail.com, with his name in the subject line.
