He is also learning appropriate play boundaries with other dogs, as he can be enthusiastic and energetic during interactions.
What helps them succeed?
Structure, consistency, and clear guidance. He is food-motivated, eager to learn, and responds well to positive reinforcement and regular activity.

Ideal Home

Only dog / With dog / Either:
Either — would do well as an only dog or with a confident, similarly energetic dog who enjoys play
Good fit for apartment living?
Yes, with adequate daily exercise and engagement
Best type of household (active, moderate, calm):
Active to moderately active
What kind of adopter would be the best match?
Someone who is engaged, patient, and enjoys interacting with their dog. Ritz would thrive with an adopter who can provide structure, routine, and daily activity. He is not a low-energy dog and would do best with someone who appreciates a playful, interactive companion.
Foster Note:

Ritz is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog who forms a strong bond with his person. He loves being close, following you around, and being part of your day. He has a playful, lively personality that brings a lot of joy and energy into the home.

He has a funny, endearing way of inserting himself into whatever you’re doing and keeps you company throughout the day. He is very food-motivated and eager to engage, which makes him fun to work with and continue training. He bulldozes Harry sometimes but we're working on it. He is quick to understand correction / is sweet. Even if a little socially pushy and attention-seeing. He has a high drive for 'me first' energy. Not dominance, just impulsive and enthusiastic. Lack of boundaries. No one has shown him to "wait your turn" so he's like ...why would I? LOL. Ritz is also a little insecure underneath. It's just "No one taught me manners, and I'm excited and a little grabby about love."

Ritz will make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loving, interactive dog. With consistency and structure, he will continue to grow into a well-rounded, confident pet.

On Roadtrips, Ritz is a dream! Easy.

Tomorrow I am bringing Ritz to work with me to observe how he does in a busier, on-site environment. From what I’ve seen so far, he has a strong “person-focused” nature and tends to stay close and engaged. In contrast, my dog Harry (about 1.5 years old) is more independent and would take the opportunity to wander if given the chance. Ritz appears more inclined to follow, stay connected, and respond to his person, which is a great foundation for training and bonding.

**Ritz previously tested positive for heartworm and was treated before he left Texas**

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Ritz, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.

Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!
