Rico's Story

SOMEBODY is missing out on a great adoption opportunity here! Please don't be misled by worrying about his mix of breeds. Rico is the sweetest, most gentle guy and--with a bit more training--he would actually make a wonderful therapy dog who could cheer hospice/hospital patients!
Our veterinarian (and all the clinic staff) have fallen in love with him and they can't figure out why someone hasn't adopted him already!

Rico came to us with a broken leg (after being hit by a car) but his leg is now completely healed (although he still has a slight limp sometimes) and he's ready to rock and roll! Although he was found as a stray, we suspect Rico was someone's beloved pet at one time because he is quite well mannered and he knows how to "sit" and walk on a leash!

Our rescue had a Wisdom DNA test done for Rico, and it was determined that he is a unique mix of Terrier, Husky, Cattle Dog, etc. (In other words, the perfect "designer dog"!)

Rico has an allergy to beef, lamb, and chicken so we are feeding him a limited ingredient salmon diet and he loves it! (We're also slowly testing him with pork, and so far he is doing fine--with no "itchies".) Other than this, he has no special needs.

Rico loves people and he has been totally vetted (neutered, immunized, dewormed, and microchipped, and he is heartworm negative). As you can see in the one photo, he has already learned to "sit" for a treat! He is a young adult (probably about about three or four years old), he weighs 55 lbs., and he is housebroken.

We want Rico to have a safely fenced yard (we do not consider an "invisible" fence a safe or humane method of containment) and we would prefer that he not be left home alone 40 hours a week as a latchkey dog. So an adopter who works from home, works just part time, or is retired would be the best fit for him. His adoption fee is $275.

Our rescue group adopts to individuals, couples, or to families with children 12 yrs. of age or older.

If you feel you would be a good fit for Rico, please contact us at: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell us about yourself, your daily schedule, if you have a safely fenced yard, etc. Once we received your inquiry--if we feel Rico would be a good fit for you (and vice versa)--we will e-mail you an application. Then, once your application has been approved, we can set up a time and place for a meet-and-greet.

Please watch his video at: youtu.be/LrDNjszHFu8
