Rich's Story

My name is Richard—Rich for short. I was a stray, surviving on my own for a while. My stomach felt empty and hollow and I was hungry all the time. I was also lonely. But, then I got rescued, and then, I got fostered! Now I get to live with a family. My foster family has children and dogs and chickens, which means, I’m not lonely anymore. I also get regular meals, so I’m no longer hungry. But, I still worry about being hungry. I’m learning not to be possessive of my food dish. I used to scrounge through the kitchen trash looking for food, but they just got a new trash can with a lid, so that solves that. I stay in the crate when my people are out, and they take me outdoors to do my business regularly, so I am nearly housetrained, now! I am also learning to walk on a leash. First, they put a Gentle Leader on me, and, I did not like that. I would turn my head sideways and try to slip out of it. So, now, they use a collar with prongs when we walk on leash. I LOVE being in the company of other dogs, as long as they don’t eat MY food. I am learning to play a game my foster family calls, Fetch . . . they throw a ball—I chase it—I grab it with my mouth, and that’s it! They keep trying to get me to bring the ball back to them, but I’m like, Hey, you threw it away, so it’s mine now! I like to wrestle with the little boys that live here. I tried to wrestle with a chicken once, but my foster mom told me to stop. I listened right away, because I am such a good boy. (Don’t worry, I did not hurt the chicken). I am a young, sturdily built, active boy, always up for an adventure. I love going to the dog park and for hikes in the woods. I am up for just about anything that you want to do. So, if you need a jogging buddy, ski-diving partner, whatever, I’m your boy!<br/>Rich is a 45lb, approximately 2 year-old male Lab/Coon-Hound mix. Rich is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
