Rhodes 's Story

Meet Rhodes

Meet Rhodes 🐾

Rhodes is a striking brindle mix, about two and a half years old and 48 pounds, with a heart every bit as strong as his story.

Last August, he was hit by a car — and no owner ever came forward. His front left leg had to be amputated. But if you think that slows him down, you haven’t met Rhodes.

Since then, he has been healing in a loving foster home, and he has absolutely blossomed.

He moves confidently, walks beautifully on a leash, and truly enjoys strolling through the woods. In fact, he makes walking fun — he’s steady, happy, and just thrilled to be by your side.

Rhodes is deeply people-oriented. If you get up, he’ll gladly follow along, step for step. If you sit down, he’s perfectly content to curl up on the couch or in a nearby chair and simply watch you — as if being together is all that matters. He is happiest in a home, on soft furniture, surrounded by his people.

He has been wonderful with his foster family’s 16-year-old autistic daughter — gentle and steady in a way that shows his natural sensitivity. He adores the other two dogs in the home and loves to play. He would thrive either as an only dog soaking up attention or with playful canine companions.

Car rides? His favorite. Open the door and he’ll hop right in, ready for the next adventure.

Rhodes loves toys — but unlike many dogs, he doesn’t destroy them. Instead, he carefully carries them from room to room like treasured possessions. At night, he sleeps with his stuffed lamb, which has clearly earned the title of “emotional support toy.”

He is fully house-trained and will politely let you know when he needs to go out. When a transporter kept him for 24 hours, he settled in immediately — as though he had lived there forever.

That’s Rhodes.

Adaptable. Gentle. Good.

He’s past the puppy phase, so you won’t have to navigate chewing, chaos, or house-training. What you get instead is a mature, devoted, playful, couch-loving companion who has already proven his resilience and his incredible capacity to love.

Rhodes is, quite simply, a very good boy — and he’s ready for a forever home that will see him the way his foster family does:

Not as a dog who lost a leg,
but as a dog who gained a second chance. 🐾

Interested in Rhodes?
